Photorejuvenation or IPL (as is is sometimes called) treats browns spots, age spots, redness, and fine lines.

Photorejuvenation or IPL has been done in the U.S. for many years. Patients report a very high rate of satsfaction with IPL or photorejuvenation. We have been performing this IPL/Photorejuvenation laser service since we opened our dermatology and laser center here on First Hill in Seattle in 1999.

What is Photo-rejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation is a treatment that uses an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to reduce redness, enlarged blood vessels, and lighten superficial brown spots. It induces collagen production and may decrease fine lines. In many cases large pores may shrink slightly.

How does the photo-rejuvenation treatment improve the appearance of sun damage, blood vessels, rosacea, and brown spots?

The Photorejuvenation device emits light at wavelengths that target blood vessels and the brown pigment (melanin) in freckles and sun/age spots. The light beam passes through the skin and selectively damages the pigment or blood vessels which are then absorbed by the body naturally, making them less visible.

BBL

BBL (BroadBand Light) “next generation” FDA-cleared IPL therapy. Using high-intensity light energy, BBL produces younger-looking, firmer skin, dramatically reducing the appearance of blemishes, freckles, sun spots, and age spots. BBL, or broadband light, can significantly rejuvenate your skin, leaving it looking fresh, evenly-toned, and youthful.

BBL therapy uses scientifically-researched light frequencies to safely heat the upper layers of your skin, stimulating natural skin regeneration, healing, and triggering the production of collagen. Additionally, the light energy directly targets over-pigmented cells (blemishes, freckles, and other flaws), leaving you with smoother, more vibrant, younger-looking skin.

With BBL, you don’t have to live with unpleasant blemishes, dull, or uneven skin tone – you can quickly and naturally achieve younger, restored, more beautiful skin. BBL treatments are not limited strictly to the face – This treatment is also FDA-cleared for and often performed on the chest, hands, and neck. The discomfort of the procedure is minimal, and there’s virtually no downtime or recovery involved.

How many treatments will I need?

Generally, a series of 3-5 treatments are performed, one every 3 to 6 weeks, with a gradual clearing occurring over several months.

Will I need maintenance treatments after my initial series?

We recommend a treatment every 6-12 months to maintain results. If you have rosacea and/or are very red, twice a year or more may be needed.

Will there be any discomfort with this treatment?

There may be mild discomfort during the treatments, but most patients tolerate photorejuvenation easily. We will provide you with a topical numbing cream that you apply one hour before each of your treatments to reduce discomfort during your treatment.

Who should NOT have this treatment?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not have this treatment. Let your nurse know if you are taking anticoagulants, antibiotics, or medications for high blood pressure as these may make you temporarily more sensitive to the laser light.

Who will do the treatment(s)?

The treatment(s) will be performed by Vio Mirza, RN in conjunction with your provider. Your doctor/PA-C is usually on site during the laser treatment(s). On the rare occasion when your doctor/PA-C is not on site, she is available either by cell phone or pager.
